In order to be self-reliant you have to be prepared for anything that might happen. The first things we need to prepare for are the things that are most likely to happen to you and not the unlikely crazy things like the attack of the zombies. One thing that is very likely to happen where I live is being hit by a hurricane.
So I have a generator for if we lose electricity. I needed to build a shelter for it outside near the main electrical panel so I can keep it outside running and protect it from the rain.
So I finally got off my butt and built a concrete pad. Don’t do what I did and procrastinate after buying the bags of concrete. I built the form and bought the bags of concrete about 2 months ago. I had the bags sitting outside on a pallet under a tarp. The bottom couple of bags had started to harden from the weight of the other bags and the moisture. So there were some chunks in the last couple bags that I could not break up and had to pull out of the mix.
The next phase of this project will be to build some type of shelter over the top of the pad. It will have to have swing open sides for access. It will need to be able to vent the exhaust and have an opening for the cable.
I was helped a lot by the videos provided by Quikrete on mixing and leveling.
